This excursion proposes a visit to the centre of Artà, including some of the most emblematic sites in the town itself, such as the Sant Salvador sanctuary, the parish church and some of the town’s large manor houses. Halfway through the walk, we climb up to the Betlem hermitage which provides impressive views of the bay of Alcúdia.
Betlem hermitage was built in the 19th century and initially housed a hermit community that settled there and grew larger over the years, still occupying the area until quite recently. Every first day of May, a pilgrimage is made from the town of Artà to the oratory.
Although you can return to Artà along the same path, this walk proposes returning to the hermitage or Sa Bernadeta spring and, from there, taking the path that leads to Colònia de Sant Pere (a clearly signposted route), passing by the Houses of Betlem.
For those interested in nature, this walk takes in a variety of areas and habitats, from scrubland and pine woods to gullies and wetlands inhabited by a range of flora and which sometimes transport us to climatologically different zones on the island of Mallorca.
This route has been taken from the collection of excursions prepared and published by the hiking group "Un raig d’Artanencs"
